On July 25, 2003, the House rejected by a vote of 199 to 231 an amendment to the Head Start Reauthorization bill (H.R. 2210) protecting teachers, staff and volunteers participating in Head Start programs from employment discrimination based on religion. The ACLU supported the amendment because it would have prevented government-funded religious discrimination. (Roll Call Vote No. 441)
