Medical Marijuana

House Roll Call No. 333
109th Congress, 2nd Session

Failed: 163-259 (see complete tally)
On June 28, 2006, the House rejected a medical marijuana amendment by a vote of 163 to 259. The ACLU supported the amendment because it would have prohibited the Justice Department from allocating resources to preempt state medical marijuana laws. The amendment would have created a one-year moratorium on federal funding for raids, arrests and prosecutions of medical marijuana patients in states that have medical marijuana laws. This amendment was offered to H.R. 5672, the Science, State, Justice, and Commerce Appropriations bill which determines the Justice Department's annual budget. (Roll Call Vote Number: 333)
