Government Funded Religious Discrimination in Head Start
On Motion to Recommit with Instructions
House Roll Call No. 284
110th Congress, 1st Session

Failed: 195-222 (see complete tally)
On May 2, 2007, the House defeated, by a vote of 222 to 195, a motion to recommit the Improving Head Start Act of 2007 (H.R. 1429). The ACLU opposed this motion because it sought to repeal longstanding, critical civil rights protections designed to protect teachers, staff, and parent volunteers from discrimination based on their religion in federally funded Head Start programs.
