Vote to protect students

Betsy DeVos' nomination to lead the Department of Education is officially a nailbiter. Your senator has a key deciding vote on whether she will become the next Secretary of Education. Her nomination is controversial across party lines – she opposes public schools, challenged federal protections for students with disabilities, and made no commitment to protecting LGBT students in her hearing.

The ACLU does not support or oppose any nominee, but we all have to make sure that senators fully understand DeVos' disturbing record on students' civil rights and unaccountable voucher systems. Tell your senator today about DeVos' disturbing positions before they vote.

I have very serious concerns about the nomination of Betsy DeVos to be Secretary of Education. Please take her deeply disturbing positions into consideration when you vote on her nomination to head of the U.S. Department of Education. DeVos opposes public schools, challenged federal protections for students with disabilities, and made no specific commitment to protect LGBT students in her confirmation hearing.

It is important to me that students' civil rights and funding for public schools be protected. As your constituent, I urge you to consider DeVos' deeply disturbing positions on these issues before you vote on her nomination to head the U.S. Department of Education.
